Mary (Polly) Gannon
Polly Gannon is co-ordinator of NYI’s Critical Cultural Studies program. (She holds a PhD in Slavic Studies from Cornell University). Her interests range from poetics to film to translation theory and practice, the politics of speech and silence, decolonial options and lenses, feminism in all its (wo)manifestations, the semiotics of textiles, spiritual/ religious/mystical convergences, commitments to social, environmental, and animal justice (broadly conceived), and a tactile engagement with quilts. She is a literary translator from Russian [and sometimes Dutch] to English, and has translated Andrei Bitov, Ludmila Ulitskaya, and Guzel Yakhina.) She has been part of NYI since before she was born.
