Asma Barlas Ithaca College

Asma Barlas was Professor of Politics at Ithaca College, New York, until her retirement. She has written extensively about Islam and Muslims, including a well-received book on Qur'anic hermeneutics: Believing Women in Islam: Unreading Patriarchal Interpretations of the Qur'an (University of Texas Press, 2019). Some recent articles have appeared in the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, the Oxford Handbook of Theology, Sexuality, and Gender, and Patriarchal Moments (Bloomsbury). She holds a PhD in International Studies from the University of Denver (USA).
