Statement from Faculty in Ukrainian, Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the State University of New York

We condemn Russia’s unprovoked invasion of and war against the sovereign and independent nation of Ukraine. We stand together to denounce in the strongest possible terms Putin’s denial of a distinct Ukrainian history and identity. As researchers and educators, we strive to foster understanding of this region and dialogue across borders. We voice our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and with all those who protest this senseless act of violence. As specialists in the Slavic and Eurasian world, along with colleagues who have participated in teaching or research in that part of the world, with the support of our colleagues throughout the SUNY system, we feel a particular need to convey this message.
