Cult E: Social Justice Journalism: The challenges of covering vulnerable populations

This seminar will quickly go through basic notions in journalism (newsworthiness, objectivity, reporting), and will then analyze why those basic notions often fail to produce effective, fair coverage of vulnerable communities. Students need not have any experience with journalism, other than an interest in helping figure out how the news media can best do its most important work: giving a voice to the voiceless.
