Ling P: Topics in Chinese Syntax

We will discuss various topics of Chinese syntax such as, the structure of topics, clefts, relative clauses, noun phrases, and comparatives. It aims to familiarize students with some fundamental knowledge of the syntactic structure of Mandarin Chinese and acquire a general understanding of common methods used by linguists to observe and gather Mandarin data, and then eventually develop typological comparison between Mandarin Chinese and other languages/ dialects.
