Seminar: Ling O: Introduction to Morphology

This course examines different approaches to morphology and its relation to syntax and phonology. This will be an attempt to find out more about words, morphemes, morphomes, different morphological frameworks and their assumptions about morphological structures. We will seek to address topics that include: - Independent morphological module vs. one component for both morphology and syntax vs. morphology and phonology computed at the same time - Inflectional vs. derivational morphology – do they work in the same way? - Syntagmatic vs. paradigmatic view of morphology - Mismatches between morphology and syntax - Locality in morphology
