Cult J / Workshop A: Moving Through Water: Translations and Transitions Between Art Forms
There are writers who make art, and there are artists who write. There is text that belongs to a gallery space, and there are art pieces that are found inside a book. How do we shift from one form of expression to another? This seminar explores translations and transitions between art forms: a photograph to a poem, an overheard phrase to a textile, a gesture to an installation. In this seminar, we will touch upon artists such as Claudia Rankine, Tony Cokes, Stephanie Syjuco, Daniel Gustav Cramer, and others, whose use of text is implemented through forms such as paper, fabric, moving image, etc. We will also explore the use of text as a means of navigating our own identities when we are shifting and moving between forms and environments.
