Seminar: Cult G: Politics of protest and the dynamics of race, gender and sexuality in the ongoing Russian musical exile

The seminar will approach the phenomenon of Russian musical exile in the wake of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. It will critically examine the ways in which the oppositional politics of protest of Russian musical exile relate to the dynamics of race, gender/sexuality, and Empire. How do Russian musicians perform exile in their music videos and performances? How is Russian musical exile gendered and raced? What does it mean to do exile in the digital age?
